PASS GOALS:
Educators and students build leadership skills and use student-centred and project-based learning approaches to improve educational outcomes
Educators in nominated secondary schools deliver an enhanced STEM curriculum
Positive understanding and relationships between PNG and Australia
target Groups:
Up to five PNG secondary school teachers (one coach and up to four STEM (science/maths) teachers
Minimum of two Australian Science, Maths and Technology teachers
DESCRIPTION:
The Effective Learning Action Research activity is a five-week action research program for PNG and Australian coaches and teachers to work together to explore innovative classroom practices for effective teaching and learning using a rapid action research approach. The focus of this activity will be how to better engage girls in STEM and is targeted at Science, Maths and Technology teachers. The program is supported by the Girls in STEM Toolkit (https://www.thegist.edu.au/) developed by Education Services Australia.
This activity builds on PASS Pilot Phase Essential Pedagogies Toolkit and the Learner Centred Pedagogies and Project-Based Learning online courses.
LEAD:
Dialogic Learning Pty Ltd are the experts at creating places and spaces where great dialogue can flourish. Tom Barrett combines his expertise and skills as a classroom teacher, school leader and consultant, to bring a unique perspective to the challenges you may be facing.
Tom is based in Melbourne and currently has long term school, coaching and architectural partnerships across Australia. This includes working with some of the newest primary and high schools in Australia.
He draws upon a wide range of experience supporting client projects internationally, including Japan, China, Taiwan, New Zealand, US, Denmark, Spain, UK, Switzerland, Netherlands, UAE and Russia.
He has worked with major corporations around the world and across a diverse range of sectors including architecture, libraries, health, technology, education and fashion.
PROGRAM DETAILS:
Five online workshops over a five-week period
Supported implementation of an action research project focused on Girls in STEM
Training program for two coaches in each participating PNG PASS school to lead and support Effective Learning Action Research in their school
Synchronous and asynchronous communications between participants over five-weeks
Establishment of a Community of Practice (CoP) with a Girls in STEM focus
All resources and training materials created as part of this program are available on the PASS Learning Bank to support the continuation of micro-teaching innovations.
