DESCRIPTION:
Welcome to the Digital Clubs’ Media Literacy Learning Activity. This is a series of workshops and resources that will help you and your students effectively and responsibly work with media online, on television and in print. Through examples, activities and resources this series hopes to effectively support teachers and students in their evaluation of and incorporation of media for personal and educational purposes.
In this course, we develop a core set of literacies and protocols to ensure an effective and sustainable approach to how we consume media daily. Participants will consider their own experiences online and how they read and share media with their peers and followers on social media. With small projects and examples, participants will develop the skills to be safe online and share information responsibly.
Foundational Points for this project include:
Develop a vocabulary for understanding and talking about media literacy in today’s social media world.
Learn the skills to effectively determine truthfulness of the media we consume.
Understand that not all information created and distributed on the internet is innocent
Perspectives are important when discerning fact from opinion
Not every viewpoint needs or deserves to be debated
We all have a responsibility to consider what we create, share, and consume
We will be using Google Classroom for this course. Need some help or a reminder on how to use Google Classroom or another Google tool? Visit: PASS Online Kickstarter.
